Burning around stoma

Ever since last week I've had burning around my stoma. I'm pretty sure it's because of where my opening is- on the lower part of the stomp. The nurse suggested to change the bag every 2-3 days so I can put powder on it and someone on here suggested another over the counter stuff. I called and asked her about that and she said she wouldn't suggest me using it. That's fine, but I wonder if I have to put up with the burning until my reversal? Is that normal?

When I f el it burning, usually when it's outputting, I press on the wafer so that it goes into the bag and not on my skin. Idk if that's helping at all. I'm pretty sure my fit is okay bc there isn't any leakage. Again, is this par for the course?

The skin around your stoma will not heal until you ALLOW it to heal. Despite what your WOCN told you, if you continue to replace your wafer every 2-3 days you are, in effect, interrupting the healing process.
So, what's the answer? The next time you feel you have to change the wafer, super clean the skin around the stoma. Apply some kind of
prep (I recommend tincture of benzoin)...two coatings. It will burn like hell, but only for a couple of minutes. During this process blow dry the area. Do not allow anything to drip on it. If anything drips on
the area....start again. If you're successful to this point, install (ok..apply) the new wafer. If you do all of this correctly you should
be good for 6-7 days. And vwahlahh...the skin has healed.

So much better! I change do he bag on Tuesday morning and it was beautiful. I think the new moldable wafer helps. If it continues, I'll try the stuff the others recommended to buy. But for now, it's good!
