Please Help: Am I missing Something?

I've schedule my surgery for the permanent Ileostomy for the end of the month.

I've been told and am pretty convinced that this is the way to go. But is there anything I'm missing? Or should try?

My current situation:
40 year old male
20 year old J-Pouch with active Crohn's at both entry and exit of the pouch
Currently have 1 abscess and fistula being treated with anti-biotics
Severe scarring and narrowing at entry and exit of pouch
I've got anti-bodies to both Remicade and Humira

My doctors don't think the new drug (Stelara) will work to relieve the narrowing.

Is there anything else before the Ileostomy?
Am I missing anything?

Yes I think you are at the stage where an Ileostomy will greatly improve your situation . You got 20 years from that pouch , that's amazing. Go for it after a few months you will question yourself why you waited so long . As mentioned above your stoma outcome is KEY . A great stoma makes life wonderful . A flat or inverted one it non stop problems with leaks under wafer because it's flush to skin . A good stoma is at least 1 inch long 1.5 at the most too long is no good either cause then your bag will rub on stoma .

I concur with all the advise provided above. I think you'll find the ostomy to be very manageable, and best of all you should not be in pain anymore. That was the best part for me. Of course I had UC not CD, so it is a bit different. Non the less I wish you all the best.
