After a brutal year of rectal cancer treatment and about 7 months with an ileostomy, my husband had his take-down in early December. He's had one serious complication after another and we are back for another diversion, which may or may not be permanent. He's a golfer, tennis player and a runner and would like to know the best placement of his stoma (colostomy this time) for playing sports. He's been too sick all year so it wasn't an issue with the ileostomy, however, it was close to his belly button and caused him to have to wear his pants above or below the barrier, which didn't work too well for him. I understand that the surgeon will have to evaluate the situation when he gets into the surgery, but our stoma nurse is coming tomorrow for selection of a site.
Hoping for any feedback from anyone actively involved in sports. And if you have any tips on the topic of sports while wearing an appliance, please feel free to comment.
Thank you so much!
