Hey all,
I came down with a cold yesterday and today I am having high liquid output.
It's been almost 2 years since my surgery and this is very out of character. My stoma has a pretty regular schedule and good consistency.
I haven't taken any medicine because of my liver so it's not a medication causing this.
If I had a GI bug or flu this would make sense. But what about
a head cold is making my stoma crazy?
I thought I saw someone else mention this before and didn't know if anyone had mentioned to their doctor before or had a similar issue.

I don't know what's going on cupcakes, but i am hopeful that it doesn't go on for too long. Maybe it's a flu of some sort.

I have noticed that my output changes/increases often when I am sick....no matter what short of sickness I have. I chalk it up to my body fighting off an illness, trying to purge things from my body and just being generally unwell. Hope you feel better soon!

Thanks NSSG!
UCWhat, that makes sense. Like any germs my body is attacking and trying to get rid of waste.
Ironically the incessant emptying and full bag was worse than the cold

Your system probably has a bug. Tuesday night I came down with a stomach bug, vomiting with diarrhea. I had to empty my bag almost every half hour and along with the vomiting....scary. My husband wanted to take me to the ER but it was so freakin cold outside, I told him NO. I've been hospitalized for dehydration in the past. The vomiting stopped about
2 am Wednesday and I started taking sips of Smart Water, praying it would stay down. It did. I felt washed out yesterday and still a bit under the weather today, but avoided the hospital. Most importantly, stay hydrated. There are times I have the diarrhea without the vomiting. When that happens, I take Pepto Bismal and it seems to work. Good luck.

Thanks Christine. I hope you are feeling better. I'm glad you dodged the hospital.
Have you tried Drip Drop? I just learned about
if from a fellow Ostomate. On a daily basis I still just use electrolyte water but in times like this it has really helped.
It's an oral rehydration solution. I think it tastes good and I hate all the sports drinks.
Most Walgreens carry it by the Pedialyte in the baby aisle.
