can feel the output when its coming out

Is this because i have a fistula which has the output coming from it,, i was told i can have my stoma refashioned,,, would that stop me feeling the output ,, basically is it abnormal to feel it coming out,, its really quite annoying lol

I don’t have a fistula but I can feel my output too, it feels kinda like pressure behind the stoma and that’s when I know it’s coming.

Sometimes I can feel it also. Definitely an odd feeling!

I have almost always felt when my stoma had output. There are times when I am absorbed in something else and I don't notice it....but usually I feel it. When I spoke to my GI and CRS they said it was normal to feel it. Hmmmm..I wonder if I misunderstood...

Did someone tell you that you weren't supposed to be able to feel it?

Hi yes im sure my nurse said that i shouldnt feel it an she said its because of my fistula is why i feel it,, i was wondering if i should have the stoma re done because of the fistula but if im still going to feel it maybe whats the point i dont know so confusing all this stuff , this is only one area i am not understanding , since my surgery 6 months ago my stomach makes so many noises so often and i seem to have alot of gas ,, im sure i never used to have so many noises from my stomach/intestines have you noticed this

I had a lot of noises in the beginning right after my surgery but my surgery was only a little under a month ago. Mines starting to go away though with the occasional fart noises coming from my stoma haha but it’s because of what I eat! I would keep a food diary maybe and see when the gas happens! You can also try beano or gas x before you eat.. I haven’t tried any of those yet so I can’t give a lot of advice in that.

Sometimes I feel the output, but only where there is a lot of it. Usually I don't. I have a recto-vaginal fistula, so it is nowhere near the stoma.

MY surgeon told me today that i dont have a fistula its just a hole that wont ever heal,, my stoma nurse told me it was a fistula many many times she told me ,, who to believe in these situations,why would my nurse say its a fistula and say i could get it sorted out with surgery and then the surgeon tell me no way is he doing anymore surgery to my stoma its too dangerous and its just a hole ,, i thought a fistula was a hole ,, how can a nurse trained in these things be wrong but i dont see how surgeon can be wrong either

If listen to the surgeon, I don’t think the feeling of output would be caused from a fistula. I think some of us are more sensitive to the feeling while others can just ignore it (during the day when I’m busy I can’t feel it but when I’m by myself or doing nothing I feel it)

I'm the same as Mak, I feel it when I'm not concentrating on something else. For the first few weeks after surgery I could actually feel the stoma move when output was coming out. Not now though.

I would listen to your surgeon I too feel it when I am alone if not way too busy to pay attention to it.
