Pooping Constantly after Reversal

I had my colon removed March 14th, 2017. Wore a bag for 8 months. Got reversed October 17th, 2017. Nothing but pooping constantly. 40, 50 sometimes 60 times a day. Have taken Imodium and lomotil. Nothing works. Going to have bag reattached.

Any suggestions why this is happening. I also have leukemia with a extremely low white blood cell count of .8.

I do not have any ideas or an explanation either. I experienced something similar after my temp ostomy for my resection. I even had 2/3 of my colon still and was going 20-30 times a day urgently, even before my Crohn's disease returned. My doctors had no explanation and just kept saying my body would adapt in a couple more weeks which it never did. They wanted me to take opiates to try and slow things down which I was against.

I'm sorry you are dealing with this. I got my bag back and have never been happier to have my life back!

I too am sorry to hear you're going through such a tough time. I hope your next surgery goes well. I decided with the help of this forum to go with the perm ileo. Great decision for me. Back to playing tennis, working out at the gym, and more; and doing all of it pain and complication free! No butt burn, pouchitis, blockages, urgency, etc. So many folks that have had the j-pouch have multiple ongoing problems like those above and yet always say how much they love their j-pouch. eyes Whatever. Hang in. Things will get better.

It could be an issue with your pouch, perhaps pouchitis, or you have inflammation elsewhere in your GI tract, like Crohn's? Could be fast transit or poor absorption of fluids. You really need to see an expert to get an idea of what's going on. I wouldn't assume going back to a bag would fix the constant passage of stool, but i guess going into a bag would at least eliminate the need to go to the toilet repeatedly. Is it urgent? If not, can you hold it for a while to attempt to cut back on trips? Urgency after pouch surgery shouldn't be the norm.

Have you gone to your GI or surgeon to get checked out?
Did you have the surgery while you had leukemia? Or did that develop after the surgery?

Ive heard of people getting tincture of opium for very frequent stools like you describe. Might be worth asking about, but first I would want to get checked out to ensure it's not IBD related and requiring antibiotics, or further IBD meds.

Found about about leukemia in February 2017. Had colon removed March 2017.
I have it under control some what. Using lomotil 2 tablets 5 times a day. Also Feber therapy, 2 tablets 5 times a day. Sure has helped. Hopefully it works long term.

So sorry Simply ... it does sound very familiar. I had my j-pouch taken down for the same reason. I now have a permanent end ileostomy. So glad I had the reversal surgery. Good luck

Sorry that you’re going through all of this, the j pouch surgery works for most people but for some just doesn’t work out. It could be pouchitis and that would require antibiotics... but I’m not sure if changing it back to the bag would reduce the output or not.

So sorry you are going through this. I saw two surgeons before my operation and both were anti j pouch. I had a permanent ileo right from the get go. I pray you get relief soon.
