How long before stoma produces output

My dad had the first of 3 step surgery for Jpouch and has a temp ileostomy. It's his fifth day post surgery and his stoma is not producing much output. They fed him a liquid diet once, but put him on IV again. He's in good hands but I just wanted to know your experience, it says on the internet that it takes about 4-5 days for bowel to become active. What about you guys? Any similar stories? I just want my daddy back home soon sad

it will vary from person to person. Generally he won't get solid foods till his bowels are awake. I was fed food too quickly and ended up with a blockage because my bowels wouldn't move the food through, it was horribly painful. If he's only getting liquids you won't see much output. I was also given a drug to help wake things up, I think it was Reglan but not 100% positive. Walking is probably the best thing to help get things moving, it may be sore in the beginning but it really helps reduce pain and get the bowels up and running

I didn't have any real output for a little over a week.

My first surgery Dec 2017 it took the full two days and my second surgery Mar 2018 my output came right away. But its true every person is different.
Good luck to your dad it does get easier.

Had a end colostomy in feb 2018 and still do not poop unless i take mike of mag..
