I had my J pouch and rectum removed in Dec 2017. My wound didn't heal so the surgeon opened my bottom up to heal from the inside out. My question is how long can I expect for the wound to close? She said we might have to get a plastic surgeon involved. I don't think I could wait a year for this to close. Any advice sure would be nice. Thanks

I'm sure all cases are unique I had the same procedure initially with complications from the removal process which lead to another surgery which involved the same area. My "rectal wound" took months to heal, the doctor was saying I may need another surgery to fix that up though it could still heal. A few months later after the hospital visit it did fully heal up, thank God as I was in no mood for another surgery. I'd say it was around the 6-8 month mark is when I noticed things seemed all healed up.

Thank you so much for your reply. Thats going to be a long wait. How long did you do the baths to soak the wound? Do you think the soak really helps? I'll do anything to speed this up. How long did you need to use the gauze? If it's awhile I need to find a cheaper way to buy the gauze.

At least I know there is an end in sight. Nice to have someone that knows what I'm talking about.
