question for anyone whos had ileostomy reversal

I had the ileostomy reversal 4 weeks ago and couldnt be happier now Im free from UC. :-) But, the one thing I couldnt wait for when it was all over is to be able to sleep on my front again. Maybe Im expecting to much to soon but I still can't. Im not in any pain the surgery went without complictions and the scar has healed perfectly. Its just really uncomfortable like Im laying on a rolled up sock.

Does anyone know if this is the way it will always be and Im not going to cause any harm. confused

Or could it be swelling and will it eventually go away. confused

Anyone else had this experience confused

Lifebegins- I accidently found myself lying on my abdomen yesterday and I'm 4 weeks out from surgery. I started in a supported side lying position and then little by little rolled more and more on to my belly. I used the blankets or a thin pillow for support. I actually prefer my side but I was not uncomfortable on my abdomen.

Thanks Cathy I was starting to wonder if I was the only person who's had the revesal op. You are the first person I have heard of that's had it done aswell. You didnt mention if you could feel a lump inside like me. It is a soft squiggy lump the size of a ping pong ball .Wondering if its the new internal pouch that Im feeling????

hi im new to this but can anyone tell me how to go about getting a reversal of an ileostomy because my partner has one and he would really like to know more about it?

any help  would be appreciative

Hi Sarah

I was wondering how long your partner has had his ileostomy. It was my specialist that put me on the waiting list for my reversal (straight after I was given the bag). Im just wondering why this wasnt done for your partner. I do know that for some people the reversal is not an option, but usually this would have been explained to you as to why!

Any questions that you have about the reversal I am happy to share with you.

Sarah- what I'm seeing is that you have to go from GI/surgeon to GI/surgeon until you find one that is willing to do what it is that you want. Every surgeon has a different opinion, look for a newly trained, up on the newest techniques kind of surgeon.

Lifebegins- I don't have an internal pouch, my reconnection was from ileus to rectum. I do feel a ball of stuff inside, I assume that it is a ball of small intestines. Our reconnect surgeries were close together- mine was Feb. 6th. My belly makes a lot of noises now. And my stool burns on the way out. Are these things you are experiencing as well?

I did wonder if it was the small intestine I could feel when I layed on my front.  I tried again last night and although I didnt feel to much it freaked me out a bit so I gave up. As for the noises coming from the stomach, I sound like Im continuously starving (Im not). I do get the red hot burning like you, but it only really bothers me in the night. I put loads of 'sudocrem' on before I get into bed, thats really good stuff. I went into hosp on 6th Feb but my op was 9th Feb. 

Do youever get really big urges to push, as if you were going to do a really big (normal) poo? Iget this if I  eat things like corn and coleslaw. It only last 5-10 seconds each time,and if I take a few deep breaths it goes away. As and when it happens changes on a daily basis.

I had my reveral done on Dec. 15, 2005. It took quite awhile before I felt confident enough to sleep on my stomach. It's quite an odd feeling. Like you said, no pain just an odd feeling. I now find myself waking up on my stomach, no big deal now. I guess I've adapted to the "odd" feeling. My only complaint is that I have to wear body armor at work and it irritates the incision area. It gets so sore that I have to tape gauze over the entire length during working hours. Other than that, it's been business as usual. I think time is all that you are going to require to adapt to the changes within.

Hi,

My name is Leon and I just had a reversal almost two weeks ago.  I left the hospital only after a five day stay and my wounds are healing nicely.  However, I still feel some lumps inside, like the type mentioned by some earlier.  My question to all the people who have had the reversal and had felt lumps is this... Do the lumps ever disappear or do you still have them?  If you still have the lumps, how long ago has it been since you have had the reversal?  All answers will be appreciated.  Thank you very much.
