Hi everyone.....  I just had my surgery on Aug 18th.  Permanent ileostomy.  I also have an infection in my incision so they are treating it daily.  IT is very close to my ostomy and it's hard for me to measure perfectly.  Lately, my wafer comes loose around the bottom or right side.  I only have one wafer and pouch left till my supplies arrive on TUES.  Any suggestions on how to keep this sticking?  I tried using the paste tonight to help seal it but not sure this will work.  I might end up at ER to just get supplies since tomorrow is a holiday.   Thank you for your help.   Pat

i have the same problem i use tape to try and strenghten it most of the time that keeps it on but not always the only thing i could sugest is to try other types of wafers some seem to stick better then others. also i find if im running low on supplies i can ring my accosiation and get them to get them to me quicker either that or so who have spare supplies ring as many places as u can and get free samples i find that helps alot to ive had to change mine 3 times in one day due to it leaking but with all the samples ive gotten i havent run out yet.

Hi,

I had a temp Illeostomy in April and have had it takendown since then. When I had it I had a lot of trouble with pouch not sticking. My Illeostomy nurse finally tried the stick paste, it worked wonders, also try a convex appliance and see if that works.

To use the stick paste take it and gently put it around the opening ( do not stretch or handle anymore than nessary)

then put appliance over it and hold down a min or two.then put pouch on.

Hope this helps you as much as it did me, I had no more leaking and bag stayrd on 3-4 days.

Hi.....  thank you for your help.  I ended up at ER and they had to use the paste (kind that comes in a tube, like toothpaste).  So far, it has worked.  My supplies have arrived now so at least I have some to get me thru until I go see the ET nurse.   Other than that, things are going great.  You say yours last 3-4 days?  is that because they loosen off or your choice?  I was told they can stay on 5-7 days.   I was hoping that would be for me..... 5 days at least.   Thanks again for you help.   So good to know others on this site are so helpful.   Pat

Hi,

I also have a temp ileostomy, but I will have mine for around 9 months by the time things are said and done.  I regularily get around 6 days wearing time out of mine now that everything is healed up (i had surgery in March).  I use a Hollister two-piece system. If you don't like the paste, you could try an Eakin seal...they are expenisve but if they are covered by your medical I highly recommend them.

Hi,

I also used the Hollister 2 piece system but also a differant one, cannot remember the name.

I had them changed by the nurses every Mon. and Thurs. as did not do it myself because they could not get it to quit leaking till the last couple weeks before the take down.

The Stoma nurse came up with the stick paste and it quit leaking and the acid burns started clearing up.Bfore that sometimes had it changed 3-4 times.
