Healing Time after Reversial

Hi Gang,



Just wondering what the healing time is after having a reversial ? Are there any issues that may require special attention ?



I know that everyone is different & all depends on how healthy your body is.

Johnny, doest seem like alot of people come to this site and answer questions.....I too have lots of question.  I have a 17 year old with crohns and 4 weeks ago had an ileostomy done and we too are waiting for the resection surgery and to get rid of the ostomy. Do you have crohns? Even if you dont alot of people on the crohns forum have some form of ostomies and may be able to answer your questions. Good luck with your surgeries and decisions that you have to make, that can be mind boggling in itself.

Hi, I recond that one would be in the hospital for 10 -14 days after the oppo. If one was out sooner Wow. I would say it would be another 6-8 weeks once you were home to build up the strenght. Some people have been know to be back at work doing light duties ( if there is a thing ) in about 5 weeks.

When I had my j-pouch (Ileo) oppo, I fell into a couple of rough patches. I developed a absess and spent an extra 10 day in hospital. About a month later I has a Virus called MRSA. I was in hospital for another 2 weeks on some heavy antibiotics. It came back a couple of weeks later. I have now been tested twice & both resulta have been clear.
The doctors went in and had a look about 2 wekks ago and found that my rectum was closing. The say that it has to be expanded once a month for a couple of months. Who can say ? At the end of it all, you know there is no guanrantee that I'll be able to get hooked up for the reversial then.
I have now drawn a line, I can no longer have my life placed on hold. I now have decided that I might as well have a perm ostomy.
I have been managing everything and have no gotten myself into suck arouten that I've learned to accept it.
It's been 2 years & I'm not waiting any longer.
I must say my doctors have been great, outstanding. They have been very supportive & would do try anything
they could to get me right. I just can't wait any longer. The sooner it happens the better. I just hope that some thing happens befor they break for Christmas.

Oh yea, I had UC.

I think you are not getting much response for ileostomy reversal because it is only a forum for people with ileostomies- I know I would never visit another ileostomy site again once I got rid of it!

You may have better luck with a site that includes j-pouch and continent ostomy in their description.

I had a ileostomy reversal (no pouch) was in the hospital 4 nights - whent home and then after about another two weeks I pretty much feel as good as new. I had trouble holding my movements at first, but things have settled down nice
