Tipped uterus--how likely is this to happen?

...I am just full of questions, now! I have tried googling for answers, but can't seem to find much detail on the surgery I am to have.

The surgeon I saw told me that there is a chance of developing a "tipped uterus" when they remove my rectum...does anyone have this? Did your surgeon tell you how likely that is? I was reading posts on another forum, and it seemed like So Many women developed this after rectum removal...since I have not had any children yet but plan to, I am concerned...

I do have a tipped uterus from having my rectum removed, but there are women here that have went on to have children. Ladies?

Thanks for responding, BadBagGirl. :) Does it give you any problems (with menstrual cycle, pain, etc.)?

I am curious if the people that you mentioned that went on to have children developed the tipped uterus and still had children, or did not and had children... My surgeon said they have strategies to "try to prevent the uterus tipping," but I did not ask exactly what they were. Now I wish I would have.

I am menopausal, so I couldn't tell you if it would affect your menstration. And both of my kids were adopted. (not from the tilted uterus, I went through the change when I was 23) I can be honest and say that it did affect me sexually. I had to learn different positions or else it hurt, which was just fine (and kinda fun figuring it out). My surgeon said that she would place some of my colon back against the back wall of my vagina for support, but it still went south ....

Come on ladies! I know some of you have talked about what it was like being pregnant and delivering!

This did not happen to me. My husband and I have two children and decided not to have any more, so he had a vasectomy a couple of months after I had my assectomy. :-)

My uterus was already tipped before(rectal removal) and I conceived and carried just fine.

Thank you very much for sharing!! Both of your stories made me very glad--I am 26 and hope to have kids in the near future, and was concerned that a proctocolectomy would really lower my chances--but it is always nice to hear people who came through the procedure just fine. :)
