Ash,
I had a subtotal colectomy in 2001 and suffered with complication for years after the surgery. I continually went to Drs and most said I suffered from anorexia. I knew I had a particial obstruction which later developed into a complete and total obstruction. One night in 2005, I started having horrible pains (worse than my usual pains and cramps) and I took my regular regimine of laxatives to help move things along. However, nothing would move. I spent about 6 hours in the bath tub in severe pain. By 5am I started to vomit. My husband rushed me to the ER and I was placed on the schedule for an emergency surgery. The surgeon said my small bowel was twisted like a garden hose. It took him 3.5 hours to fix my intestinal mess. He said that I had over 25 adhesions and he found pieces of old organs just floating around in my body that were left inside my abdomen from my surgery in 2001.
In short, for a particial obstruction - you need to call your Dr. For a total obstruction - you need to get to the hospital ER.
I hope this answers your question. Why are you asked Ash? Are you feeling Ok?
