There is a good chance that you will get a partial blockage at some point within your first year post surgery. I had a couple and they are really no big deal. First the best thing you can do to avoid a blockage is to chew, chew, chew. I am not good at that. The symptoms of a blockage are having the urge to go but very little comes out. At this point you will probably feel some abdominal discomfort. Stop eating and resort to liquids only. Try to get some exercise. Walking in your house, up and down stairs if you have them, are good methods to use. If you start vomiting go to the ER as that indicates a possible full blockage and needs medical treatment. Again, most likely if you get a blockage it will be a partial and you can manage that on your own. I have never had a full blockage and I am not 8 years post surgery.
