scrip for supplies?

The questions continue! So I was talking to my insurance company the other day to get a handle on how to order supplies- I have Harvard Pilgrim HMO, they cover durable med. equipment in full, with a max of $2500/per calendar year. You have to order thru an approved vendor- they are sending me a list. But- the rep. told me you need a script from your doctor???? What?!?!? Has anyone else had to do this? I can't imagine what type of scrip the doc would write, as there are so many different types of supplies, & it's a lifetime necessity. I'm sure it's some weird technicality, but... just another hassle. I have to go to my primary care doctor soon for a check-up & I plan to ask him about it. Any of you had to do this?

That's what I'm thinking, it's got to be a one-shot deal. I actually saw on the Edgepark website that they contact your doctor as well as your insurance comapny, so maybe most of the suppliers do that. Just one more thing to think about! My PCP is not very knowledgeable about ostomies, I don't believe- he is the one doctor who advised me not to get surgery! My GI, all the specialists, & the surgeon tell me it's got to be done. I like him a lot, my PCP, so this will have to be a learning experience for him too.
