Paste/Powder sticking around stoma

My skin was really irritated around the stoma so I've been changing every 3 days to make sure it clears up, but now I've noticed a white "scab/film" around where the skin was red before. Not sure if it's normal healing or the paste/stoma powder that I can't get completely off. I don't want to pick at it too much in case it is healing, but worry that it's not good to have this film there either. I've tried adhesive remover and a ton of soap to but it's not coming off. Anyone else have this?

How does the skin in that area feel - itchy, sensitive, etc.? If it's not bothering you and if you are getting a good seal with the wafer, I would give it a couple of changings -- a chance to heal if that is what is going on. Then I would try to clean it off.

The Eakin Seals will also leave a film or thin layer of paste-like substance right around the stoma where the wafer has begun to break down. It does take a little light scraping to remove it all when I change BUT my skin is fine under it. In your case, you started with an irritation around the stoma and you don't want to irritate it any more.

It doesn't itch at all, it's just raised and feels like dried glue I guess. I e-mailed my ostomy nurse and she seems to think that it's ok as long as it's not open or red, I have to see my surgeon next Wednesday and she said she will stop in and take a look at it to make sure all is ok.
