Hernia behind stoma

I had an ileostomy 3 years ago. I am now 79, enjoy good health and work out 25 minutes on cycling system and 9 weight machines every morning. I also walk a mile twice a day and have a light swim in the PM. In a routine post-op exam my doctor recognized I had a hernia. He suggested I get an ABDOMINAL BINDER WITH A STOMA openING. I opened a medical supply catalog and discovered I had more questions. Size? The Hassle Factor when you are in a rush? Hygiene questions? I am beginning to wonder if I really need this additional detail in my life. Will a hernia kill me if I do nothing about this proposed support belt?

Since I am new to this ileostomy drill, I don't pretend to know a lot, but I have a hernia to the side of my stoma, too. I was very upset about the appearance of the bulge caused by the hernia so my doctor suggested an ostomy support belt. I had to have a WOCN nurse measure me for it because it was made especially for me by Nu-Form. It took about 4 weeks to receive the belt after ordering it. As for as the questions you have, it would be up to you as to the worth of getting one. I like mine because it makes my belly look smaller and it is very easy to put on. However, I don't wear it all the time because it is like wearing girdle (sorry Info-Guy). Hope this helps.
