ileostomy

The last two days I have noticed my ileostomy stops working for a couple hours and I have pain above the stoma. I have been drinking alot of water and don't understand whats going on.

I have been eating the same thing all the time. The output has slowed down alot and I don't have to go get IVs all the time wihch makes me feel good.

I can sure use some help with this as it kind of scades me.

Jan525, You may be experiencing a blockage. Some can be mild while others are extremely painful. I have had blockages that seem to work themselves out. I've used heating pads on my stomach as well as taking a prescription that my doctor gave me that dissolves and works quickly. Check with your doctor. Also, you may be getting the start of a hernia. So, be careful.

I chew my food really good and drink lots. I hurt around the stoma and am bloated some. I eat oatmeal tst. in the morning and snack threw out the day. Have been eating the same stuff for the past four months as I have had sergery because of blockage in Dec. and was than that I ended up with my ileostomy. I'm scard the same thing is going to happen again.
I have had four surgerys in five months with the first one in July and the last one in Dec. It is hard to have much faith these last months of my life. I know we have all had our share of problems here and this is a wonderfull group of people. I have learned alot from reading the forms and do most nights.

Good to here from you. Hope your husband is doing better. Sounds like you have really been busy with the house and taking care of your husband.
I took care of my Mother and law for eight years right up to the end at home and she was 92 when she passed away. She was a wonderfull person and was like a mother to me.
Yes, I think the ileostomy is starting to adjust and doing its thing. I would say it was about time. I stopped drinking coffee and don't eat sweets and I think that has helped. Thanks for keeping in touch. I don't have to get IV's all the time now and it is so nice not to have to set at the hospital for hours at a time.
I went to the ER yesterday and my Dr. was there. I had a ct scan and btood test and all turned out good. I ware the sensure convex light made by colopast, because my stoma tips down. He wants me to start wareing the flat one and try to figure out something to put under ths stoma to hold it up over the bag thinking it would't leak. What do you think I should use?
He thinks the convex bag is what makes me hurt all the time. Does this make since? It is sure uncomfortable. Jan,

OHIO76 has a great idea in trying samples from other companies.  Have you tried the Eakin Seals under the wafer (only around the stoma opening of the wafer, like you would use paste)?

I am so glad that you stopped drinking coffee and cut back on the sugar.  I KNOW that helped me tremendously.  I remember suggesting that to you when you first came to this forum!  I still drink a little decaf in the mornings, but I also eat a banana and a grain fruit bar with it.  Seems to work for me.  But I also start out with my 3 imodium in the morning as well.

Sure hope you continue doing well.  So glad to hear that you are not having to visit the hospital for IV's now.  Keep your chin up - you are doing well.  Just gotta figure out the convexity issue --  try other samples.... especially if it is stopping your leaking issues.
