Staples are out!

...and the verdict is in: Crohn's Disease.

Dr. removed about 7" of the left side of my descending colon. He found some other 'indicators' that pointed towards this disease, but nothing requiring surgical intervention at this time. Just the one large, ulcerated spot.

I'm not sure what that means for further treatment. I just did a quick read on C'sD and find the treatment options are basically the same meds as I was taking for UC. For which I had no positive results. Hopefully the surgery has removed the 'problem spot' and I won't have any other flares or will be able to get future flares under control before they get out-of-hand.

Still, I feel remarkably well. Belly is still tender, but abdominal muscles are getting stronger every day and I am able to eat more and more.
We stopped and visited Q (my horse who I boarded during recovery) on the way home from the Dr office today. She pricked her ears right up when I called her name and I fed her a few of Hubby's french fries.

The drive home from the hospital the other day was an ordeal. Hubby, trying to get me home 'quickly' was on-the-gas, on-the-brake and lane changing. I finally lost it and told him I needed him to remain a smooth speed and keep forward/backward and side/side motion to a minimum. Every time I had to tense my abdomen for a sway of the car, my head falling back from acceleration or trying to step on the brake on my side of the car, it caused my abdomen to tense up and I was going to be very, very sore when I got home.
Luckily, he listened and started driving better, but I thought I was going to have to 'brain' him for a moment there. Or maybe I just wanted to 'brain' him?

Yes, I'll have to be on some type of maintenance but I have to await my appointment with my GI specialist.  I'll hear from them today and probably have an appointment w/in the next 2-3 weeks.

I had no response the the meds I had previously been on, but I am hoping the problem spot was so out of control, nothing was going to help it.  It was a runaway freight train with all its' weight/momentum behind it, nothing would stop it.  Perhaps now that it is gone, we can keep things under control and prevent them spinning out of our control.  I just want to keep things managed.

I don't think I could lay down while Hubby drives. How could I tell him how to drive if I was laying down and not able to see? :D

I think a pillow would have been best, we used a folded up bath-towel over my belly and under my seatbelt. I braced my left elbow on the armrest, holding my belly with my hand and held the OMG-handle with my right hand. Big leather seats, I slide on leather seats.
Felling better/better. Belly is a little 'tight' and I can't straighten up all the way unless I do it slowly. I want to stretch so bad, but if I stretch back too far, my belly isn't strong enough to pull me forward. I've been using Hubby as a sort of physical therapist. I stand facing a wall and have him stand behind me. I lean my back on his and he leans forward a little, then bends side/side a few times and then stands me upright again. Doing this, I can use my belly muscles as much/little as I like and I feel it is helping them to regain their strength w/out fear of hurting them.
