what annoys you?

I have not posted in a long time. The things that annoy me are going into a public restroom
to empty my bag. Going swimming and not being able to dry the bag right away and all the
extra crap I carry in my back pack in case of an accident. I get pissed when I go to an event
where they have security and they take my empty water bottle and I have to pay $3 or more
to buy a bottle so I can empty my bag.. Security in the airport. I had a funny thing happen there
because my bag was full of air and when they ran the wand around my body they touched the
the bag. I refused to pull up my shirt in public and got taken aside by the airport police. So when
I lifted up my shirt the guy said what is that? I said it is an ileostomy and he said it looks like a
penis. I said okay your right it is a penis. He said why do you have it in a bag. I said I couldn't
find a pair of underwear that had two holes in the right place. He just looked a me like I was
crazy and said go on. I just cracked up laughing. Can you imagine what that guy was thinking.
Anyway it helps to keep a sense of humor. Fruitcake

shaz i have noticed that too, I used to cut my fingernails on the "loo" as you call it, when i had UC, i was in there all day anyway, may as well do something useful, lol. Now i have to cut them like a normal person!
Fruitcake-i love the airport story! i know it wasn't funny when it was happening to you, but it sure sounds funny written down!

oh yeah. the mess ... seems like I always forget about the underneath side of the front of the seat. I mean, I don't lift it up often enough, but I feel embarrassed when I know that guys used it when it was icky.

I thought I was the only one who missed my quality bathroom time... I definitely do not get as much reading done as I used to.

I get annoyed trying to clean the end of my pouch after emptying when I am in a hurry.  It took me a while to realize that less is more when it comes to toilet paper.... 3 squares  is just about right. One to squeeze excess waste from the end of the pouch, one to fold into a tiny rectangle to clean any left overs just inside the opening and one more to wipe the outside of the pouch before putting the clip back on.   I have been thinking of inventing something that you could fit in your pocket to do this for you - mess free.

I also get annoyed when changing my appliance and my stoma decides to be active.  I dont know how many times I have cleaned up sht off my bathroom counter and floor...

i have the perfect solution for the toilet mess problem! i have hte same thing happen to me sometimes. I was using Clorox wipes to wipe up the mess on the seat, if that happened, but that was getting expensive. So, i got those alchol prep pads, you get like 300 in a box for really cheap. And it takes about two of them for me usually to get it cleaned up. And since it's alchol it sterilizes it.

Angela-that is so funny that you said that about three squares! that is what i found is perfect too, and also thinner toilet paper works better, saves you alot of money too, lol. In the batrhoom i use, there is no toilet paper holder thingy, just no good place to put one, so the tp roll just sits on the back of the toilet, no biggie cause noone but me goes in there. However, i found that it was alot easier to have the sets of three squares all ready to go, so i just tear off a bunch of them and make a little stack.

Jo-what you said about the worries being little compared to UC is exactly what i was hoping this would show people!

The only thing that really annoys me is the rising cost of ostomy supplies. If gas goes up in price we could choose to drive a little less. But we can't use the same technique  when it comes to ostomy supplies. They've got us by the "short and curlies" and the companies that sell ostomy supplies know it! M9 drops were 9 dollars a bottle when I first started using them back in '95. Now they cost around 30 dollars a bottle! Why? Greed, that's why! Thanks to your suggestions I now use mouthwash as a deoderant for 2 bucks a bottle! Other than that, life after ostomy surgery has been pretty darn great for me!

I miss reading the Sunday comics on the toilet. Now I don't read them anymore.

I hate it when my pouch fills up with air, especially after I've just drained it. I even have filters on the pouches. The other day I made homemade blueberry pancakes with whole wheat white flour (yes, that's what I meant) AND we had Morning Star Farms Veggie Sausages. You wouldn't believe the color, odor and how much my bag was about to burst in the middle of the night - caught it just in time. Too much fiber, I suppose.

I get annoyed cleaning it. I am opposite from some because I get a big wad of toilet paper and twist it into a long cone shape and stick it in the bottom and twist it around. I usually have to do that twice. I think everytime I empty I always think "wow.....this is really me?????". I feel like I went from "normal" to no colon so quick......gosh, so fast!!

with bug spray?
well i live in NC, it's been ok this week, but we have had 100+ since the middle of May, plus its very humid here. Which, i dont know from experince myself, but i have heard that humid heat is far worse than dry heat like out west. there was a man from, i think arizona, who told me that 110 out there felt cooler than 90 here with the humidity

I've been thinking about this question for a couple of days and am having a hard time coming up with something that really annoys me, so I'll share some of my twisted humor with you.

I'm annoyed that I don't mop my floors as often as I used to. You see, I used to have a lot of accidents while sprinting to the bathroom, so I used to have to mop my floors all the time. Now, I never have accidents, so I've stopped having a reason to mop so much.

I've also gained weight since surgery, since I no longer sprint to the bathroom 20 times a day. So, I've had to join a Jazzercize class and jump around with a bunch of old ladies just to lose a couple of pounds. It's not pretty.
