Hi All!
I was told by my ET Nurse that I needed to wear a belt if I'm using any type of convexity be it light or deep convexity. I myself, wear Sensura 1 Piece Light Convexity. I noticed tonight when I changed my pouch, that my belt dug into my stomach and caused a bruise.
Do any of you wear belts if you use convex? Is it really necessary? They are so uncomfortable to wear.
Please share your feedback.
Thanks!

I use deep convexity, have an uneven stomach from scars and don't use a belt. I do, however, use an Eakin Seal. It seems to be all I need to keep things in place...the only time I had separation was YEARS AGO before I found the Eakin Seals!

Ohio76, thanks for replying. I feel so much better without one. Sometimes, though, I notice that the bag feels heavier when its full without a belt. But, they are soooo uncomfortable. I couldn't believe the bruise I got near the barrier. It really pinched me.

I, too, have a bag with convexity and no belt. My et nurse said it was an option and in no way necessary. Just do what works for you. Most ET nurses have a wealth of knowledge and no actual experience having an ostomy. I think that is why this is such a good and informative site.

Thanks, justjenjen! Unfortunately, I had one ET Nurse (with 30+ years experience) who told me it was "necessary" with convexity to wear a belt. So, not knowing any different, I wore one for a long time and just recently decided to try it without the belt. It's been working out fine. I guess until you actually have an ostomy, don't know always know for sure.

i have yet to figure out the purpose of the belts, lol. I haven't used one, and have been fine so far. To keep my bag from feeling heavy when it's full, i keep it tucked up on itself.
