Ulcers around re-sectioned intestine

Wanted to post this info for anyone who might be having or have this problem in the future.

I had my colon removed end of last year. Had small intestines hooked up to my rectum. No bag.

The beginning of this year I became anemic. I was afraid I was bleeding internally from the surgery.

Had endoscopy done, showed nothing.

Had pill camera test which showed ulcers in my small intestines with bleeding but they couldn't tell where they were located so they did a sigmoidoscopy on me yesterday and found the ulcers near my re-section. The GI doctor spoke w/ my surgeon and they agreed it's a reaction to the staples.

So I'm taking hematinic to keep my iron levels up but that's all. They aren't going to do anything else or any other treatment. Maybe eventually it'll heal on its own.

Just wanted to post this as an fyi. After the pill camera test my GI doctor told me it might be Crohn's. That really upset me. I already have MS. Couldn't deal w/ another autoimmune disease.

From looking at the location of the ulcers and after my GI doctor spoke w/ my surgeon they both agreed it was a reaction to the staples so my GI doctor was pretty confident it wasn't crohn's.

My blood tests showed my iron levels were fine. The GI doc told me to just keep taking the hematinic to keep my iron levels up. Now that I'm aware of it I will have to monitor myself.

You know I don't know if he did a biopsy. He's always been a thorough doctor so I think once he saw the location and he conferred w/ the surgeon and another doctor in his office that he was confident it was due to the staples and nothing else.

To tell ya the truth, I was so relieved to find out it wasn't crohn's I didn't think to ask about anything else. I've been thru a lot the past few months and I'm emotionally and physically worn out. I need a long break...from everything.

I wanted to post this to help anyone else out that might be having the same problems.
