just wanted to know what type of bags you guys like and disslike.  i wear the hollister new image two piece pouch system.  it's alright.  right now i'm wearing the one you can't see through and it's nine inches instead of the twelve.  its good and bad.  it's good becxause it'snot so long that it irriates your leg and it;s annoying because you have to empty it more often.  anybody have a preference.  i have a temp ileostomy.  everything else is still connected and healthy except fora little inactive crohn's in the rectum.  anyone else had a reversal and not regret it and doing well?  my surgeon said that some people go into remission for 20years but the average is five.  anyone have advice?

I wear 2 pc convatec and have since my surgery in 1984. I choose to wear the longer bags and just fold them up inside my panties. so if the space is needed during the night it is there. I've tried both the short and the long, and the way that I wear them, you cannot tell the difference under my clothes, but on very rare occasions, the extra "space" is welcome. I do sleep clear thru the night w/o emptying on most nights.

Notice my signature below --- disease free from CD since perm. ileostomy surgery! Yep, no going back for me but I am healthy/disease free. I, too, had a temporary for several months, had reversal surgery, and my CD came right back. But, I didn't respond to any of the medications prior to surgery either. My CD was totally relentless. Some folks have pretty good luck with the meds. and temp ileo/reversal. I just did not, but that's me for ya!

I do the hollister new image also.....I really like it. I just tried out some of my old bags (convatec, coloplast etc) to see if I liked them better and I hate them. Hollister 2-piece is my choice with the sticky ring thing.

You'll find that everyone has their own opinion on which bag is better. The answer is 'the bag that is best for YOU is the better bag'. You'll need to experiment, get free samples from the different manufacturers and try them out. Some people love Hollister, others hate them. Some people can't get along with Coloplast, others wouldn't be without them.

Visit the various manufacturers websites, you can order samples directly from the site or ring them to obtain some.

They're the main ones but there are others if you Google ostomy manufacturers.

I just switched to the Hollister New Image 2 piece with filter and velcro closure. I love it, but it's a personal thing. You definately need to try samples from all the manufacturers, so go use the links from Shaz and you can request them right on the sites. I did and tried all of them before I found the one that worked best on my VERY UNEVEN stomach. Unfortunatly, the ones that were a little more ridged didn't stick very long:( I do the tuck under and stick in your panties, too. It does help with the longer pouches.

I had a temp ileo for a short period of time, had it reversed, then had it put back (too much rectal involvement). Reconnection didn't work for me, but it is different for everyone, and YOU have to do what is right for YOU!

Because of my very sensitive skin, I use Sensura from Coloplast. The Light Convexity has cleared up problems I had with leakage. The pouch is about 11 inches long, velcro closure and has a wide outlet. I prefer the one piece. I've had my temp ileostomy since July 2007. I started off with Hollister. Then went to Convatec. I had allergic reactions to both brands. I'm afraid to try other brands since I found something that works well and has not caused me any problems. I also use the Eakin Seals.

Hi Bella,

I totally agree with Shaz--depending on your body and stoma, what kind of bag that works best for you will be up to your own experimentation...!

I have used the Coloplast Assura Extended wear wafer, and I wear the opaque "midi" pouch with them.  I like this pouch b/c it is so small; though I do have to empty it 2x each day at work (but it is so fast!).  Ifigure when I had crohn's I was in the bathroom 10 times a day at work, so this is a great imporvement :).

I have had my ileo for about 5 months and not have one leak, not even a minor one, so this system has been great for me!!  Good luck; I know you will find something you like a lot.  IT took me trial and error for about a month. :-)
