? about post surgery stuff

Hello all,
I usually post on the uc board, but since this ? pertains to post surgery, I thought I'd ask you all. I have uc and have had lots of the extra-intestinal symptoms (arthritis, erythema nodosa, episcleritis, geographic tongue, kidney stones) SUPERFUN! I was wondering if any of you former uc sufferers had them and did having a sub-total or total colectomy cure them too?
I also have lots of stomach pain that I'm hoping goes away after the cut.
(FYI-I really need to have surgery and am going to muster up the courage to call the surgeon tomorrow-Of course I'm scared because I feel like I've been sick so long, I won't feel better even after the surgery. I just hope it fixes EVERYTHING)

i had swollen/red eyes all the time when i had UC and now that my colon is gone my eyes are nice and white like they should be. i still have some joint pain because i'm still on steroids, but i'm assuming that'll go away as well. i have a temp ileostomy for now until i can go in and get my jpouch connected after it heals :) so far i'm extremely pleased with the results even though i have had some minor complications that have postponed my reversal surgery. after being in an active flare for the past 6 years i'm glad i finally had the surgery. if you've made up your mind that you need it i say totally go for it, no one i've spoken to has any regrets except maybe not having it done sooner.

I had Crohn's for 7 years before having surgery two years ago, and I have been disease-free and medicine-free ever since. Having this surgery completely took care of the pain associated with Crohn's for me, and now I'm completely healthy. So, it would definitely make your UC pain go away.

I would ask your doctor if having surgery would help you have fewer UC-related side effects, like kidney stones and arthritis. I would think if you're UC-free, those problems would definitely get better and not worse.
