Hi Old Friends!

Hi Everyone:

It has been a while since I last posted but I have been checking posts on a regular basis. I am recovering well since my reversal, although it was a bit rocky at first. I am back to work full-time which is kind of unbelievable coming from where I was! I arrived just in time to see my 401K turn into a 201K! Ha, Ha, a little accounting humor (very little!).

I know many of you, like me, have had several abdominal surgeries. Needless to say, my abdominal wall is really weak and I know that I am prone to having incisional hernias. My question is, has anyone had experience with an abdominal support wrap. The hernia supports I see in the catalogs are kind of "low riding" and my area of weakness extends north of the navel. I have seen some "slimming wraps" but I am not sure if that would be appropriate although it looks like it might fit the bill. I'm probably in-line for hernia surgery at some point but I would like to put it off as long as I could.

If anyone has any thoughts on the matter it would be appreciated. Thanks,

Hi Richard! I just now saw your post! Good to have you back around! I'm feeling ya' on the 401k thing. Boy, is that a mess. I'm glad to hear you are doing fine, except for the hernia stuff - ouch. Keep us in the loop, and let us know how you're doing. I hope someone can help!

Being a female I guess does have its advantage in this case. There are so many choices for women in the "slimming" down look category, that got lucky finding "modified" briefs (as they're now called instead of girdles). They're actually somewhat sexy so you don't feel like you "really" need them. No more of the "grandma" style girdles. Even women, who probably don't need them, wear them. Pretty comfortable, too. I found the hernia belts to be extremely uncomfortable. Being short wasted (only 5 3 1/2"); the belts were always riding up my back. By the way, I too have a hernia. I went into the emergency room about two months ago thinking I may have had a heart attach. I had extreme pain in my chest, stomach and right arm. They did an EKG (which seemed to be fine), and a CAT scan. The CAT scan showed the hernia on one side of my stoma.

Maybe you'll find something online similar to the woman's modified brief. It would definitely be more comfortable for you.

HAVENT POSTED FOR AWHILE...BACK AT WORK FULL TIME AFTER BOWEL RESECTION AND TEMP COLOSTOMY LAST OCTOBER.  THEY TRIED TO RECONNECT IN FEB OF THIS YEAR BUT COULD NOT..STILL NOT HEALED ENOUGH.  I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT IN NOV TO TALK AGAIN WITH SURGEON  AND WILL TRY AGAIN AFTER THE HOLIDAYS TO RECONNECT.

 

OH  TEMP COLOSTOMY WAS DUE TO DIVERTICULITIS THAT PERFORATED SIGMOID COLON, SO THEY REMOVED A PORTION.

 

MY QUESTION...HAS ANYBODY HAD THIS SITUATION?  I'M SCARED TO DEATH THAT THEY WONT BE ABLE TO RECONNECT.  I AM THANKFUL THAT I'M STILL ALIVE BUT WOW..WANT TO BE RECONNECTED SO BAD!  HAS  ANYBODY HAD ANY SUCESS, GUESS I NEED SOME REASSURANCE AND HOPE.  HAVE HAD NO PAIN WHATSOEVER SINCE SURGERY AND I FEEL GREAT..EXCEPT I DONT EAT CASHEWS AND FRESH CORN ON THE COB ANYMORE! HA

I don't like to be political but I am really upset after reading that Congress is considering taxing our 401K's!! And this isn't when we withdraw it either. On a positive note, it is good to have really good ostomy friends. We are a tuff bunch.:)
