Good day
i have recently undergone the j-pouch step one surgery 7 weeks ago with the takedown surgery planned somewhere in march-april of next year.
the surgery went very well although i still have a little bit of pain, but i control this by using mild painkillers as necessary. i have also started working this past week and started driving a month after surgery, although i still take it easy, i plan my trips carefully and dont drive very far and very often yet.
i just have one concern....at times i experience a burning sensation while waste or gas passes through my stoma and this has never been the case with my first stoma i had. the surgeon changed the stoma a little bit this time around. it doesn't look like a rosebud anymore, but is more flat against my skin.
it's almost like stings through my body as the waste passes through...it's sometimes so bad that i have to either sit or lie down. i sometimes massage the area with vaseline as you can feel the burning sensation on my skin as well.....on friday at work i had it real bad, i felt like fainting at times, because it was so unbearable.
i phoned my ET nurse and she said that some patients do experience this and that i should maybe have a look at my diet, like not eating spicy foods etc. i don't eat spicy foods and i do drink lots of water, but on occassion i do eat junkfood, but only on occassion.
My ET nurse also said that if the discomfort and pain doesnt subside, i should rather contact my surgeon so that he may prescribe something as she doesn't want to prescribe just anything.
has anybody ever had this experience of a burning, painful sensation when waste or gas passes through the stoma? i would really need some advice on this please as i am at wits end. i so much want to have a normal life with this bag....i was fine with it for 2 years, but now this stoma is making me not wanting to go anywhere or wishing the day at work could just end.
Please help!
