The appliance, not the swimsuit. smilewinkgrin

I've been wearing a one piece b/c i like it to lay flat under my clothing and I don't like the hard plastic on a 2 piece. but I keep having leaks. It's really hard for me to tell when the leak started b/c I don't itch and it only minimaly stings. so based on someones advice, I'm trying a two-piece.
I'm using a hollister b/c that's what I have samples of. However, I only have the bags with vents. and I only have 2 bags. I've read that as soon as the vent gets wet, it fails. Does that mean it starts to leak there? Or does the vent just not work?
Since I only have 2 bags, and I want them to last a while, after I shower, can I rinse the old bag out and put it back on?
I can shower with the bag off right? and just keep the wafer on.
My ET nurse said not to rinse my bag out when I empty it b/c water will weaken the seal; if that's so, then how can I shower without a bag on? Wouldn't the same thing happen.
I think they sent me convex wafers, but I don't know why. unless they all are convex? I don't need them to be since my stoma sticks out pretty far.

I called coloplast today to get samples of the sensura and asura. or whatever they're called.

i already answered the vent question in another thread before i saw this, lol.
the vents just don't work as well. The new ones are better than the older design, the older ones just never worked again at all. the new ones will start workign again once they dry out. They also will get kind of stopped up when you sleep. The will start working again after you have been up for a while.
I dont rinse mine out, i have yet to figure out a reason to do that. If i have eaten something sticky or something that is lumpy and hard to get out, i sometimes squirt a little water in, but i rarely do that.
I shower with my bag on, the idea of not having it on grosses meout, lol. I dont know about it weaking the seal i would think that it would. Alot of people only take it off on change day and then take the whole thing off.
I havent' figured out the convex thing, i was happy with the first thing i tried and my husband and ET picked them out while i was looped on morphine and i know what kind they are and how to order them, but i have no idea if theyare convex or not, lol.

the Hollister filters WORK...I have never had a problem with mine!!! I don't use stickers when I shower and I shower EVERYDAY...and it last a good 4 days before I need a new one...

Your pouch will fill up with air while you sleep, but as soon as you empty it, it works again...I just posted that I think it has something to do with the weight at the bottom of the pouch...helps the filter.

You can damage the area around your stoma if you don't need the convexity...I would suggest not using them if you don't need them...I do and they help pull mine out...the curse of a tiny stoma!!!!

when i shower i use glad press and seal wraped around the bag with a little tape to keep the bag dry but i find when i am changing the appliance i will do it first thing in the morning when it is less active and shower without anything on i feel letting the skin breath for the 15 or 20 minutes  is great for the skin

So far I like the filters! It's been only a day, but I can't keep air IN!
I did have to change the whole thing though. It started stinging and itching really bad, so I knew something was wrong. But I took off the bag and looked at the stoma, which I found very convenient. My hubby cut the hole too big and my skin was being exposed! So I had to change everything and since I only have one more two piece bag, I just put on another sample one piece. Another Hollister vented lock n' roll. but this one has a different looking wafer. It's all wavy.

Do you ever shower with the bag off and just the wafer on?

chas u can shower w/out the bag, i prefer to shower without either...the bag or the wafer, it gives me room to breath and makes me feel a little "cleaner" im glad ur enjoying the hollister, i tried it once b/c of the filter but i had a leak at school and it totally freaked me out from trying again. i figured id try over spring break or something. let me know how it works out

I love Sure Seal rings now!!  Someone here told me about them and one try and I was hooked...I am a shower with the pouch on person...It doesn't bother me.

I've never heard of sure seal rings! What are they? (I know I could look them up and do all this research myself, and I will, but it's so easy and convenient to ask you :-) )

So far I'm having good luck with this new Hollister sample bag.
But I got to thinking that maybe it's the fact that I didn't put it on after a shower? Maybe that's making the difference. Or maybe it's the wavy wafer.

usually, a wafer holds best if you don't shower immediately (or within 12 hours) after putting it on...at least that is what my stoma nurse advised me!  But it IS okay to shower before turn

No I don't mean convexity. The pattern on the wafer kind of looks like an egg carton. I'll go to the website now and see if I can find it.
It's called a premier mini drainable pouch with a softflex barrier.
