Hey would there be any reason that I couldn't take off the flange/bag and go for a swim in a lake? Just thinking about it with cottaging season coming up

The water couldn't get into your stoma - the peristaltic motion of the stoma makes it a one way thing. Things can come out but not go in - that's why suppositories in the stoma aren't a good idea, they'll just be pushed out again.

However, having an exposed stoma inside your swimming costume might not be the best thing to do as it will get messy esp with an ileostomy. Just wear your flange and bag as normal and go swimming instead :)

I would think a cap would be good so when you're walking into your cabin or on the dock and such you're not spoutin' poo.

are you talking about skinny dippin? or regular swimming with people? I wouldn't do either...I wouldn't want to swim in poop if my ileo acted up!!

^^ lol @ skinny dipping cool    I would definitely be wearing some trunks but I was thinking below the stoma.  Can't say I'm real worried about "swimming in poop,"  the fish poop in the lake too so I'm already swimming in it, ha.  I'll try both ways with and without bag once the weather gets better and see what happens.  I guess I was mainly worried about the water washing off good bacteria or something along those lines

I get creeped out about the fish...even in the ocean! When we go to Cape Cod I have to worry about the seals, too!!!

Do you REALLY want all of whatever is in that lake water going into your stoma?
