So...I'm trying to weigh out my options and decide what will be the best long-term solution for me. I was wondering if anyone would like to share what you like most about your colostomy/ or ileostomy, AND what you like the least about it. Overall, do you think your life is better with it?

i'll just put some here, even though those links are probably more than enough, i am bored, lol

the things i like are
not being sick
eatign what i want when i want
not having to run to the bathroom
its very convient because when other people are in the bathroom for 10 minutes i'm in and out in 2.
And when i had a stomach flu the other day i emptied when i wanted instead of runnign back and forth like regular people would have to do,lol
theres lots of other good things too

lets see, things i dont like

i have to put stuff in my left pocket now
i dont like drying it after a shower, dont know why it onlly takes a few minutes but it just gets on my nerves,lol
thats basically all i dont like

Thankyou so much for your response!! I read the posts from the link...thank you OHIO76...and they were very helpful as well. It sounds like overall everyone seems to be happier after having an ostomy. All the restrictions from being sick are suddenly gone! I know there are lots of complications that come up as well...I guess you just hope that you don't have to deal with any of them.
Not having to run to the bathroom sounds pretty nice!

I would really just like to get out of the bathroom for most of the day. Right now I spend several hours a day just trying to get something to come out..and I'm usually not successful, or very slightly so if I am. And if I'm not actually in the bathroom, I'm thinking about when I will have the next opportunity to go back.

The thought of waking up in the morning and not feeling like a beached whale that just swells throughout the day sounds so wonderful to me!
I want so badly to get my life back , and as bad as a colostomy sounded to me at first, it's beginning to sound like it might just be ok.
It really helps to know I'm no the only one with problems!

hmm..
THINGS I LIKE-
get to eat anything
dont have to always worry where the potty is
sleep better now that im not waking up to pain and having to run to the potty
feel a TRILLION times better now that i dont have any sickness in me
can play basketball and run now
lost wieght bc i have the energy to work out
dont have to take any medicines!!
I can't think of all of them lol its late and im super tired but if i remember anything else ill edit this =)

THINGS I DONT LIKE-
when my stoma leaks bc it itches
having to cut a perfect hole to fit my stoma..thats hard bc its oval but im actually getting a whole lot better at it..not i can cut it amazingly by just looking at my stoma =)
thats pretty much it

You'll find there's a lot more + than -

bella-you dont have to cut it perfect if you cut it round your stoma will smush into it!


It is awesome to not spend all day in the bathroom i didnt eventhink of that! and i have so much more time and i dont have anythign to do with it, lol.

Bella- thank you so much for your take on the whole thing! Sounds like you are enjoying life and feeling much better! That's great!

I would love to be out of the bathroom long enough in the day to actually get bored! That hasn't happened in so long...
