Hi everyone,
Linda, we have been worried about you! Good grief girl, I'm so sorry you had to go through so much. I feel so lucky that my surgery went so well. At the time, it wasn't much fun, but I really had no complications in the hospital at all, and my dr. just had me take things really slow....had ng tube for 6 days, but thank goodness it was put in during surgery! I agree about those leg thingies...what a pain. I was lucky that my husband stayed in my room with me at night, so he was there to help. I know some people didn't want anyone with them, and I didn't care during the day, but I definitely was glad he was there at night.
Are you feeling better now? With no complications at all, it took me a good month to not be completely exhausted, and about 6 weeks to feel pretty normal, except for the running to the bathroom thing! Please keep us posted.
Lizzie,
I feel so bad for you. It just sounds like you have one bad experience after another. I can't imagine having to clean up like that in front of people--I don't even like going to the bathroom at the store where I have a private stall! LOL I really truly hope after your appt. next month you'll get good news and can have surgery to the k pouch.
I'm doing well...I just really have learned not to eat certain things. The last couple days have been good...I go about 4 or 5 times during the day, but after 5:00 pm, I still go several times, and by the end of the day it gets very liquidy. It's ok, just makes for a sore butt, but so much better than before. Today is 8 weeks post op and I'm so thankful every day, even days that aren't as good as today, that I had surgery.
Hodaya,
Hang in there. You said your surgeon was agreeable to your surgery, so that should be all that matters. Is there a reason you can't just go to him and skip all the other doctors? You've been dealing with this for way too long! One other thing, you asked about me feeling like I haven't completely emptied when I go to the bathroom. I'm finding out that it really really does make a difference in what I eat. I had that brautworst and corn on Saturday night and didn't see it until Tuesday! Sunday I felt lousy all day, but Monday morning I drank some hot chocolate and that got things moving. Since then, I've been eating low residue mostly and things are much much better. I just have to remember to really watch what I eat. Pizza isn't my friend either, unfortunately!
Marissa,
Don't let some of these experiences scare you too much. I felt the same way before surgery and kept wondering if I was making a huge mistake. Laxatives were still working for me, also, but I had to take more and more. After a lifetime of laxatives, I was just tired of it, and couldn't deal with it anymore. As I said before, surgery sure wasn't fun, but all in all, I did fine and I bet you will too! Just remember, there are lots of people here to help you through whatever happens!
Lori,
I had a small bowel study where I drank this horrible stuff (not barium, because barium constipates so badly, this stuff tasted like stale cough medicine). Anyway, I drank two glasses of it, and then they took xrays. At first it must not have worked well, because the technician yelled out to me to think of eating my favorite food, and I must have, because then everything passed normally. However, my surgeon feels like I have some issues with my small bowel, because if I take one lomotil it will completely stop me from going for hours, and he said it normally takes much more than that. I'm hoping he's wrong and that the test was right! Please keep us posted. What do they do if your small bowel isn't working? I know you must be scared, but you sound like you have a great doctor, so have faith in him. I'll keep you in my prayers.
Hope everyone else is doing well....
Janie
