When I came home from the hospital, up to last week, I was wearing Hollister mini pouches, which I liked because are small and fit in my underwear.  The downside to them is that it seemed like I had to empty them all the time.  I ordered some samples of the regular sized pouches, which I am currently wearing, and like because I can wait longer between emptying.  My question to all of you who wear longer pouches is how do you deal with the pouch hanging out of your underwear?  Do you let it dangle down on your leg, or do you tuck it up somehow?  The style I am using has a velcro closure, and I worry that if I let it hang down the velcro will get bumped and let things flow.  One person told me she wears 2 pairs of underwear and tucks the tail end up in between the two pairs.  I have tried this and it seems OK, but sometimes it seems too cumbersome.  Please share your tricks of the trade!  Thanks.

I like the mini's, too, but don't wear them very often for the same reason.

With the longer pouch, I fold the bottom of the tail upward and tuck it into my undies. My pouches have a velcro closure, too, and you don't have to worry about the velcro coming undone, even if it's not tucked into your underwear. It holds really well, and I've never had one come undone in the 3+ years that I've had an ileostomy. :-)

i do thesame thing ce-ce does. I worried about the velcro coming undone if it was just hanging down there too, plus its annoying!

I do something similar...I turn the end up and tuck it between the pouch and its cover.  It takes one or two times to figure the best way to get it into that area, but once it is there it stays by itself...and I put my undies over it.  You'll be surprised at the Velcro...it is pretty indestructible tongue

If you are concerned about the Velcro failing, (as I am), I got a box of clips from the non-Velcro ended bags from Convatec, and use them on top of the velcro. That wa if one fails, the other works.

I use the Hollister 8531s. Easy to cut to fit and normally just wear shirts outside my pants, although when I need to get into business attire, they work quite well tucked in my slacks.

I wear my bag at an angle pointed towards my groin area. That way it doesn't hang down, instead it all fits neatly in my underwear and is in the right place for me to sit on the loo and empty my bag between my legs :)

It also has the advantage in that, as it fills up, it's distributed across my tummy rather than down one side and I don't look lopsided :)

Thank you, everyone! I changed my appliance this morning, and placed it at an angle. I am wearing one pair of panties, and have folded the end of the pouch up into them. I will try tucking the tail under the "fabric" on the pouch, also. You are all so awesome for replying. It's not like I can go out to coffee with my friends and have a conversation about this! So, thank you for being my virtual coffee dates!

Moreglorydays......Do u urrigate every morning? I do that and dont have any output thurout the day.....Use to small bags and have so much more comfort......kim/maggie

Kimlin08/Maggie --- do you have a colostomy or ileostomy? I've never heard of irrigating an ileostomy? I know it is an option for colostomies, but never heard or it with an ileostomy... My food goes thru me much too quickly for irrigation to even help. Besides I have had several feet of small intestine removed as well.

Peggy, i have a colostomy....and im so new to this all im trying to learn as much as i can......thanks for explaining the difference.....I will have my reversal or try in august.....but really they arent sure it will be a sucess and honestly im thinking in my head it could go either way.....kim
