Hi Everyone,

Im a Crohnie who is going in to see the surgeon today to speak about a possible permanent ileo. Im not a candidate for a colon. My rectal muscles are shot (too many surgeries/fistula's/abcess's) and I have no control. I am just wondering what sort of question's should I be asking??? Anything would be a great help!!

a canidate for a colon? do you mean a j-pouch?

If you are gonna have a perm ileo things you want to ask about are
does the surgeron perform lapro
time off work
pain meds
recovery time
what meds you will have to take afterwards

there are more but i cant think of any other ones right now!

Hi Allison,

Welcome to our forum. If you're ready to have surgery, I would ask the doctor if he or she can do it laproscopically, for a pain pump after surgery, for a private room in the hospital, and for an Ostomy Nurse to meet with you before surgery to mark the stoma site and after surgery to show you how to change the wafer/appliance.

will you have a proctocolectomy (removal of colon/rectum)? If you are going for the perm ileo and have fistulas make sure they take it all...no need to have two surgeries.

with 30+ surgeries you probably won't be a candidate for lapro (if they were abdominal), but it's worth asking!
