Jackie: your post op appointment was today?

First of all - How are you doing? I hope your recovery is going well.

Dr. Weiss scheduled my next surgery for June 23rd. I could have had it a couple of weeks earlier but I will be out of town. I guess a couple of weeks won't make much of a difference. He said that part 3 will be mid-late August or early September.



The second surgery he will make the jpouch and create a new ileostomy.

I am going back to work May 4th.

Hope you are getting used to the bag and you are feeling less pain. :))

Oh that's exciting!!! Are you feeling better? June 23rd seems like a far away date but it'll be here before you know it, I'll put it on my calendar too as a reminder.

I've been on and off. My back has been hurting really bad recently, I've changed my wafer once since leaving the hospital .. I can't believe it's only been 2 weeks since my surgery! I'm reducing my pain meds and hoping this week I'm back to "normal", I'm going crazy at home!

I spoke with the nurse and also to Dr Weiss today on the phone and he said the histology on my colon was normal and consistent with ulcerative colitis. There were no signs of malignancies which is good!

My post op appointment is set for May 18th at which point they will do a pouch-o-gram to ensure there are no leaks? (I'm not too sure of what the next step entails) And he's set a tentative date for June 3rd for my second surgery. I'm so excited.

Isn't his team great? What was your experience like today at the Clinic?

Because I was so sick Dr Weiss wanted to wait 3 months before I could have 2nd step. So you will go through the takedown before me--- I expect all the details.

By the way, I had a lot of back pain starting around 2nd week post surgery. Then it went away about a week or so afterward.

The clinic was really busy today. Dr. Wexner, one of the other surgeons, had his 10 fellows with him walking around. It was very funny- all of these doctors in the hallway following Wexner around. Dr. Weiss is low- key and so nice. I really like him. He doesn't have an ego like other surgeons I have met.

He mentioned the pouchgram- I don't want to think about it because I have a ways to get there.

And yes, June 23rd will be here before I know it. I am going to be very busy starting May 4th- back to work and then June 7th I will out of town ( work related but fun in Daytona) until the 17th- Then surgery.

I am getting used to the ostomy bag which I never thought I would. I was miserably sad about it for the first two weeks. Now , it is second nature and I can eat and not get sick. I am in a better mood - getting off the prednisone ( down to 5 mg) Yeah!

Take care of yourself. I took pain meds for about 2 and half weeks and then relied on arthritis strength Tylenol for another week. Now I am practically pain free- except when I laugh or sneeze.

I like Dr. Weiss a lot too. He called me back almost immediately today which was amazing considering how busy he is.

Ya I'm weening off the pain meds and I'm down to 15 mg on the prednisone too which is considerably low for me :-)

Question about foods .. are you eating normal right now? What can/cannot we eat especially since I'm only 2 weeks post op? Is there anything I should avoid like taco bell? :-)

I've been eating at home, soft foods like mashed potatoes and cream of wheat and stuff. It's all getting very boring and bland. I need exciting food ... although not too much pepper and spices obviously !
