skin breakdown. Do I have to use paste, powder, barrier wipes?

I have about one fourth inch skin breakdown around my stoma.

Would it be advisable/ok to put my convexity one piece on without any paste/seal, stoma powder, protective barrier wipes?

If you have been using the paste/seal, I would continue doing that. It will add another layer of protection so that the skin has a chance to heal. I use a strip of an Eakin Seal that I cut off of the disk and apply kind of like you would apply paste... I stick the ES to the back of the flange (the sticky side), around the hole you've cut out for the stoma. Press it securely in place around the hole of the flange. Apply as usual. Best of luck to you. Is this your first attempt with convex wafers?

I've been using them about a month. Went 80 hrs the first time. Now I only go 48 hrs but I am thankful.

So I should use the paste or seal, but don't need to use the powder and barrier wipe? I'm going to try that later this afternoon. My husband is going to measure another pattern for me as my stoma has gotten smaller and may account for leakage after 48 hrs.

Less is best!!! I don't use anything beside the eakin seal... no powder, no wipes.... but I don't have any skin breakdown either. Sometimes it is best just to use less. Let me know how it turns out!!!

Hubby drew new stoma pattern for bag.

I used paste and put on bag.

There was stinging immediately which I thought was the paste hitting the skin breakdown. The stinging stopped after a minute or so.
There has NOT been stinging since; so maybe the stool is not slipping through the paste or sticky barrier!

I'll report later how many hrs I go before I remove the bag. But I will say that the skin around the stoma feels much better which makes me happy and better about gardening and going out/about.

lots of times it will sting when you first put the bag on, it has something to do with the paste. I find if i just press on the part thats stinging it quits hurting pretty quickly.
