Hello everyone,
I am new to this board and would like to say hello to everyone. My husband has a colostomy. He had to have emergency surgery after being in pain for 5 days and me begging him to go to the emergency room. When I finally got him there, they discovered that he had diverticulitis. It had filled up, got infected and then burst, thats why he had all the pain at home. Because he waited so long to go to the hospital, it had caused such infection in his stomach that they had to remove a portion of his colon. He was in the hospital for 13 days. He had this surgery on May 13, 2009. It is reversible, but not for quite a while. They want his colon to heal. He also has to have his gall bladder removed, which they will be doing in about 4 to 6 weeks from now. We had never been through anything like this before. It really blowed us out of the water. They called a colostomy nurse in to show me how to care and change the bag. I have learned alot since his surgery. They also have a home health care nurse coming to our home. I have read alot of your posts and have learned more from them. Thanks for sharing your stories. Sherry
