Im two weeks post op with my new colostomy..... the stoma is separating from my skin. I did go to see the ostomy center today but ended up with the nurse Im not so sure she knows what she is doing.... she looked at it and said yep its separating...just fill it in with stoma powder in which she did and put on a new bag. Is this something I should change my bag more often and watch closely or is this nothing really to worry about. Other than that everything else looks good.

I don't understand what you mean separating...is the skin breaking down around the outside of the stoma? Are the stitches coming out prematurely?

there is a gap between the skin and the stoma. I could probably stick a quarter in it...... most of my stitches are gone now but I do still have some.

that happened to me too! I could actually see my stitches. I was freaking out.
If you do a search, I bet you'll find my posts called 'freaking out'. tongue
And that's basically what my stoma nurse told me.
I was a pain to get it to heal, but it did. I didn't change my bag more often, but I did get better products that didn't leak. and I put on lots more paste.
And I tried to give it as much air as possible. Right b4 bed time was best for me. But I have an ileostomy, so I bet that'd be easier for a colostomy.
