Well, new to this site, but you are looking for a parastomal hernia, meet mine!! Had colostomy two years ago for diverticulitis (questionable), surgeon (didn't know him then or now either) provided no follow-up, no communication - denied what I diagnosed as a parastomal hernia right after surgery, denied hernia, refused reversal or further surgery due to poor lung function; subsequently transferred hospital to far larger facility, now being considered for hernia repair and/or reversal. My hernia is about the size of a grapefruit, sticks out about 6-8", having a time trying to wear other than exercise pants - hate them! I'm small - 5', 93 lbs - and live by toting around this loathsome protrusion sticking out of my body directly under stoma,.. a colostomy is one thing, it's the hernia that changes everything in one's lifestyle - food, clothes, appearance, emotional state, sttitude - although not painful, it has to be the "pits" of existence! I wrote a previous message - it disappeared, so I'm hoping this is the only response. I wear cords (corduroys) for pants, not one will fit around waist, just devised a way by using a long belt to hold sides together (hoping no one will peek under the shirt). Trying to get my life back - including my job as a teacher (should be retired). I'm going on 74. Howzzat?
