I finally saw my GI Dr. yesterday about
my nausea symptoms and he thinks I might have a bezoar.
So I racked my brain to figure out where I had hear that term before. OH YEAH! It's from Harry Potter. But I could not remember exactly what it was, so I asked to explain.
He said it's kind of like a hairball. (jeez, i am around animals way too much and now i'm turning into one!)
But not a hairball (well, most of the time).
It's a big clump of stuff (hopefully food, because....YUCK) that is now stuck in your GI tract somewhere-most of the time, stomach.
It can partially block the flow and digestion of food, causing stretching and nausea and possibly obstruction. And meanwhile, slowing down my gut motility.
Gross! so, now i have a food ball hanging around my insides.
That's what i'm being treated for. I gotta take enzymes at every meal to help break it down.
It can be caused by a virus. But you see, only i would get that side effect of the stomach flu.
If I feel better in two weeks, woo hoo, that's what it was. If I don't, I have to have another EGD.
The other differentials were not so great.
I'm hoping it is just a bezoar. That's a really fun word to say
btw: in HP, a bezoar is a stomach stone from a goat that Harry forgot to put in one of his potions. He can have mine.
