Getting scoped again this coming Tuesday the 29th to see if my ileostomy has allowed my colon to heal enough for a reversal. I am a little concerned and wanted to run something by all of you guys. I've had it since August 5th and overall everything has been cool with it. I know it's normal to feel the need to go to the bathroom still. Generally that's anywhere from 1-4 times a day and normally there's no blood but occasionally there is. Not very much but enough to see and I was just curious if this was still considered normal. It just makes me nervous that maybe things aren't healing like they should..or maybe haven't healed at all and I'm not gonna get the reversal..or at least not soon. Hopefully someone here can say "yes it definitely can be healed and there still be a little blood in the toilet when you go. :) But any insight or thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks everyone.

Hi firemedic, Usually when i get the urge and to go i have like a mucus that has a tinge of pinky blood in it not every time but sometimes i think your find this is normal i mentioned it to my surgeon in August and he didn't seem that bothered. Bev x

My understanding is that it is normal to have a little blood every now and then. The few inches of colon that they left behind can still been inflammed due to UC...I am assuming that was your problem. The inflammed colon is not really too problematic due to the fact that stool is not passing over it and irritating it. My son was told to fully expect a little blood every now and then. This inflammed mucosal lining of the colon has been left in place until your next surgery to keep the colon/rectum health. It will be stripped away, with the UC inflammation, when you have your reversal.
