Hi all. I'm 90% sure I'm going to go ahead with the surgery, hopefully in late January.
Proctocolectomy with permanent Illeostomy. Surgeon says my colon and rectum are trashed, no hope for a j-pouch.
I've had UC for 12 years (now they think it may be Crohn's). Last biopsy showed dysplasia - but then another pathologist said no.... It would be so easy to decide to have the surgery if it were dysplaia!
I'm tired of prednisone, asacol, taking pills, knowing where every bathroom in the county is located (including the clean ones), knowing what side-roads I can "drop trou' and take a squirt without being seen, cutting my underwear off with a pocket knife at wal-mart due to a "shart." Tired of making shopping / dining / travel plans based on the route between bathrooms.
I have felt like crap for so long I think it's normal. My 3-year old knows to find me in the bathroom.
Is it possible to do the front part laproscopic? I know my crack will be very sore after they cut my anus and rectum out, but I'm hoping if he can do laproscopic on my abdomen the recovery will be much smoother (at least in the front).
At least my boss is understanding, her Grandmother had an ostomy. They will give me off as much time I need - with pay! (what a vacation ).
Anyone read "Alive and Kicking" by Rolf Benirschke? What an inspiration!
OK, vent mode off! Thanks for listening!
