Hi all,

SO, I just had my stoma re-done cuz I had surgery for a blockage :(

I really liked my stoma before and now it's different. I feel like I can't even call her Zoe--she's an imposter! But I will have to get to know this new Zoe.

My old stoma used to stick out really far, so convexivity was soemthing I never looked into. My new stoma doesn't stick out nearly as far. I don't know how to tell if I need convexivity on my wafer or not. Can anyone tell me what to look for? My new stoma sticks out maybe a half inch or so. It used to be over an inch! This is so different. It's like I'm starting from scratch :/

If you find that you are leaking you will probably need convexity. Just b/c your stoma is not as protruding as your last one does not mean that you automatically need convexity. The shape of your body around the stoma plays a big factor, too. If the area near your stoma is convex, then I think you will need a convex wafer to get a secure fit.

Don't just assume you need it...like justjenjen said if you leak consistently (and usually at the same spot) you should try it. If you aren't already using Eakin Seals give them a try too. Try different brands, too, some work better for different stomas and body types.

I use convexity, and knock on wood, have very few leaks. My question is, how does it work?

I use the convex wafers, eakin seals, and the ostomy belt. Since I switched to the convex products I've had no leaks =)
