How long are you "out of it" following surgery?

     I guess this is more or less individualized but just wondering.  My surgeon said it would take about 2 hrs to perform the perm ileo but do they wake you right away or wait till you are out of recovery?

My friggin surgery took 7 hours :) (don't worry this was an individual thing) and they woke me up in recovery. I think most will do so in recovery. I actually felt amazing but was sore as %*&$# .. obviously. Just remember to try and walk as much as you can, Christine and to your limits. You don't want to hurt yourself either. One more week, huh? You are going to do awesome.

     Anthony.....you went for the j-pouch, am I correct?  That is why my surgeon would NOT do a j-pouch on me...too freakin old.  LOL!  He said the j-pouch step 1 usually takes about 4 -5 hours, so don't know why you were in there for seven.  A friend of ours had a open heart surgery Friday ...replacement valve and he was in surgery 7 hrs!

My surgeon did my surgery in 3-4 hours I believe.

I don't remember exactly when I "woke up", although I do remember waking up right after I think and all I remember is I was trying to say "help me" cause my stomach hurt so bad and it felt like I couldn't breathe. I dunno though.
The next day I don't remember anything because of the morphine, but my fiancee has pictures of me playing Pokemon on my DS and surfing the internet on the laptop.

My surgeries all took much longer than they normally do, so my first one was over 7 hours, too. I always have a hard time when I wake up. I fight a lot and am always in a lot of pain. I remember them telling me "keep your arms down" and I kept flailing around. My surgeon always called my husband to tell him I was awake and he would just laugh about how I acted. The pain is always under control within a few minutes, though. I always call people from the recovery room and then never even remember what I tell them or whether I even really called them. By the time I am moved to my room, I'm fine, though.

Woke up in recovery and yelled in pain. Nurse ran right over and morphine into IV and that felt goooooooood! Went back to sleep. Woke again, Then doc told me how long it took him to get my small intestine out of scar tissue and how difficult it was (that ton of scar tissue I had previous to coming to him that gave me small bowel obstructions). He said now you will be able to eat. I said thank you so much for all of your hard work. Then I went back to sleep. I don't remember anything until the next day when I woke up in my room. Only one more dose of morphine, then all I needed was Motrin. So the pain was very short lived. I remember calling out in pain in recovery and getting the first dose of morphine, but I don't actually remember the pain itself. You will be well cared for and given pain meds as you need. The reason why mine was 7 hours was because he said I had a tremendous amount of muscle to go through ;) Seriously. I told him: "Well, it didn't show much before the surgery" ... these stories are actually pretty funny ... I do remember waking up and saying I wanted to throw up and then two seconds later saying I wanted a steak ... duhhhzzzz. The pain was controlled instantly though. What I didn't know was I was on a ventilator .. I guess it is kinda obvious since you can' breath on your own under anesthesia. My point is, if they give you that ridiculous plastic device to blow into ... DO IT!!! I neglected it, and developed a small case of pneumonia.

i haven no idea how long i was out, i remember giving my husband my glasses, going in and saying the room looked like the episode from seinfeld where kramer dropped the junior mint.
And then i remember wakign up for a few minutes after i was done, saying, help me please help me for more meds
and i dont remember anythingelse until night time, and my surgery was at like 7am. But i dont know how long it took or anything
