Hi everyone! I had an emergency colostomy on 6/13 due to a ruptured diverticula. I was in the hospital for a week and have been doing "really well" according to both my surgeons and my family practice MD.
I am so glad to have found this forum. As I'm sure most of you were also, I was terrified when the surgeon was explaining the surgery to me. There wasn't any time to really think about it, which I think was a good thing for a procrastinator such as myself - LOL! I've been reading several of the topic threads and already, I am feeling more comfortable. Thank you!
I think for me, the mental part of all of this was as hard, if not harder on some days, than the surgery itself. According to my surgeon, he feels like I will need to wait about 4 months before he can do the "takedown", so you will be seeing me around. I hope to gather more good tips for coping and maybe even help someone else with their process.
