How long did it take to sit comfortably?

My husband is eight days post rectum removal/anus closing. He truly thought he wasn't going to have any difficulties with sitting or with pain after he had his operation. Three years ago he had his colon removed and had an ileostomy and did rather well after being in the hospital for 13 days. He thought this was going to be as easy. Now he is really feeling down and feels the summer is going to pass without him being able to do things that he likes--go for a pontoon ride at our cottage or sit in a car to travel to visit the east coast. He can't sit down comfortably without pain. He takes Vicodin at night only and he can sleep on his side for a long stretch of time. He is using an ice pack on his bottom when he sits and is using a shower head to spray warm water on his bottom. I have ordered a waffle pillow and a memory foam pillow but they are not going to arrive until early next week. I should have done this before surgery but didn't realize how awful sitting was going to be. How long was it before any of you could actually sit comfortably for any length of time? The surgeon an RN told him he was a "tenderoni" and it was going to take a long time to heal both inside and out. I suspect that some of the discomfort is coming from inside (disolvable stitches). My husband doesn't have any outside stitches except for his lapra sites. I'm sure many of you can recall your first few weeks after this surgery. It will help me explain to my husband what to expect if he knows others have been there and are now ok. Thank you.

How did you know you had an infection?  My husband had stitches but they were only dissolvable ones. 

well iv js had a my colon,rectum and anus removed 11 days ago and i still find it hard to sit which is expected/ Its not unbarable tho and the pain killers def help. Iv been told itl be a few more weeks till it gets better. Iv got disolvable stitches 2 but still try not to spread my legs as tht hurts.
He will jst have to be patient unfortunatly.
