Quick question ....

I love the concept of Sure Seals, they however don't love my skin. Always get red and rashy after 2-3 days wear time. Is there another similar product available?

I use the Salts stoma collar and find its great. Perhaps you could try that! Good luck and let us know how u get on

Thanks Doreen, but I don't have a leakage problem. I swim a lot and love how the Sure Seals cover the baseplate so it dosen't get wet. Still on the look out for any other products!

Hi, I used to use sure seals for extra protection the first time I ordered they were a pinkey colour and I came out in a rash I spoke with stoma nurse and she ordered some others which were fine. I can't remember the code but, you could explain to the suppliers whats happening and they can advise you. Hope you soon get it sorted Bev x

Mine are Smith & Nephew...but I don't use it that far away from my stoma.

Is the rash all over or just in spots? I get creative with my wafers and seals by trimming them to different sizes which gives my skin time to 'breath' if it's a little red (I don't get the itch tho) without affecting the wearability.

I think it is so cool to find so many of us adapting to our new lives and not just settling for a process because that's the way...we find better ways!!!...the knowledge we have here is amazing!!!!

I hope you find a way to keep using them:)

Allison, I had the same problem with sure seals irritating my skin. I found a pretty decent replacement by using convatec duoderm extra thin 4"x4" wound dressings. I just cut the square into four equal strips use those to form a seal around the outside of my wafer. I received the suggestion to use this set up from a nurse at the Mayo clinic a few months ago and it has been amazing. I can wear this for 4-5 days without any irritation.

This might not be helpful but I started out using the thicker ring that was sticky on both sides which irritated my skin and left alot of adhesive on my skin. So my ostomy nurse brought out another thinner one which seems to be going well. Sorry but she just gave me the order number and no name for it?? Im guessing not all seals use the same adhesives.. Good luck

what you could do, if its just a small place under your sure seal, is cover that place with a little bit of gauze until it heals under there. It looks really funny, but it works i have done that before.

suumer, it's all the skin that the SS touches. Ick.
Ohio, think I can cut the SS's to cover the baseplate, like maybe 1/4" or less adhearing to the skin and it should stick?
