Why would you have surgery?

For me it was to get back to my active life! For those who are considering surgery and those fighting the post op settle in process (like I did!!), I submit that things will get better! and for those who are interested below is a link to my blog and the FIRST salt water kayak trip with my oldest son this year! This is why I had the surgery!

I had surgery to just get rid of Ulcerative Colitis. Constant pain, not being able to eat whatever I want, always having to live my life around bathrooms and UC.
The first couple of weeks sucked cause I had almost no energy. Come to find out that my asthma came back so my doctor ordered an inhaler for me. Ever since I started using it my energy is back 100%.

i think the question for someone with UC is why wouldnt you??? :D

i had it because i was tired of wasting my life away and missing out on everything! and i saw no reason to try to keep a colon that didnt want to be there!
So i kicked it out and beat UC.

Great blog! I had surgery, because I wanted my life back, too.

After battling Crohn's for 7 years, I was sick and tired of being sick and tired all the time. I had tried every medicine (and so-called "cure" diet) to try get the disease into remission, but ultimately, nothing worked. Thank God for surgery, because I've been disease-free and medicine-free ever since, and I love having my health and life back!

I'm so glad you guys got your health back, too!

10 years after my CD diagnosis I had a temp ileo from surgical complications...had it reversed...and went back to no quality of life.

Lived in pain for another year and elected to have another ileo...kept that 'temp ileo' for 8 years and decided I wasn't going to ever be hooked up again so I had my proctocolectomy!

My daughter has gotten to know her 'real' mom and I have a life again...something I really missed while sick for all those years!

Surgery is never fun and recovery can have complications but I think, in the final analysis, it's worth it!!!
