oozing pus from stitches

The surgeon did a nice stitch job on my stomach but now two of them are oozing pus. My family doctor took a look at them on Thursday and said they were ok...but I call him Dr. Quack...have to find a new family doctor as he didn't even know what a perm ileo was....ugh. He asked if my rectum were stitched closed. I should have asked him if he wanted to stick his head up there. Anyway....is this normal?

Lol at the last sentence. Do you think it could be an infection? I would have it looked at, by a different doctor.

hi, christine. It might be a minor infection. Def get it checked out just in case they want to start you on antibiotics. As long as you are not having fevers and/or red streaks leading away from the site, I don't think it would be anything crazy. Anytime your body does that it is trying to fight off something. It happened with me too and was put on antibiotics.

Definitly call your surgeon and monitor your temperature. After all 4 of my surgeries inclusing the ostomy and even the reversal and then later on a fistula repair I had incision infections. The last time I mentioned it to the resident in the hospital he thought it was nothing ...needless to say he was wrong.

My surgeon's assistant told me to put Neosporin on it. I don't have Neosporin but I have triple action antibiotic cream which I have been using. Since the first popped stitch, the one below it popped too. The ostomy nurse who has been coming out to my home, my family physician, two other nurses, the EMT's who came on Friday to take me back to the hospital because of dehydration, the ER physician, ER nurse and the GI doctor who saw me in the hospital all took a gander at the popped stitches and ALL of them said..."nothing to worry about". I see my colorectal surgeon tomorrow for my post op exam and let him take a look. If he said it is ok....then I know for a fact it is ok..lolololol. So far I am still alive, no fever and they finally stopped oozing yesterday.
