My husband had rectal stump removal and anus closure on June 28th (seven weeks ago). While it was rough at first, he is doing remarkably well. There are a couple of things that we are planning to discuss with the surgeon when we return to the Cleveland Clinic this Friday. My husband still has some swelling in his lower stomach area. On his right side, he says it feels somewhat numb like you would feel when you have dental surgery. It doesn't hurt, it just feels wierd. He is also having some male problems but understand that this may take awhile longer. He is able to get around, drive a car and sit at restaurants--all of which he couldn't do four weeks ago. Anyone that has had this surgery would you let us know if the "swelly belly" feeling is unusual? What about the numb feeling?
