     I read somewhere that you had your anus sewn shut a year after your ileosomy.  Did you ever get an explanation from your surgeon why he didn't sew it shut immediately after your ileostomy?

     I have an appointment with my surgeon on Wednesday as I am  having problems not only with hemorrhoids but I am bleeding from my vagina and have cramping.  I went through the change 20 yrs ago and have never had a problem before.  Trying to get in to see a gyn doctor but they all seem to be booked till mid Sept..  At my post op visit with my surgeon, three weeks ago, I mentioned that I was having a discharge from my vagina but he didn't want me to have a PAP smear just yet because I was only five weeks post op.

I had my initial op done 34 years ago when I was 10 years old. Back then the j pouch was really new. They left my rectum and anus in, in the hopes I could later have a j pouch but they were too diseased and a year after my ileo op, they removed my rectum and anus as well. Nowadays, they could still have done the j pouch even as diseased as everything was but back then, it wasn't worth tackling the 'unknown'.

I've been really happy with my ileo, so for me it's a non-issue really. Would I have the j pouch now if I still had my rectum and anus? Probably not. I've had very little trouble with my ileo so for me, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

     You are so right.  Thank God I have an appointment with a gyn doctor tomorrow morning at 11:30 am.  This bleeding from the vagina has me really worried.  My friends have told me NOT to worry that it is probably from the operation and that things maybe got jarred around down there. rolleyes
