For those of you with constipation/anismus/etc. do you think you get last spasms after you use a suppository vs. an enema?
Thanks!

Snuggle, I had better luck with the suppositories, but I still suffered bouts of rectal spasms....OUCH....I hate rectal spasms. My doctor, urogyn, even prescribed me muscle relaxants and they did absolutely nothing to relieve the spasm pain.
Since having the ileostomy, I still have to rid my rectum of mucous and my doctor told me to throw out the salt water enema from the fleet and replace with warm water. So far, this has caused no pain or spasms....not sure if this will help you though since you are trying to stimulate a bowel movement????
Do you take miralax or any other laxative? Because I had the best of luck taking mega doses of miralax and then using glycerin suppositories and then of course, performing all of my disgusting bathroom acrobats! This consumed 3 to 6 hours of my day to perform and that is something I do not miss at all.
I really feel for you suffering from this awful anismus. But, if it gets too unmanageable, just remember that an ileostomy is not the end of the world. When I decided to have the surgery, I truly thought it was going to be just terrible, but much to my surprise, it has actually turned out to be one of the best things I have ever done. My stoma is my friend!
I didn't even realize how sick I was until I had the ileostomy. I now have boundless energy....I can clean my house for hours, walk on my treadmill, go places and stay away from my house for an entire day...hell, me and hubby are actually planning a cruise for us and the kids for next summer.
Just wanted to let you know these things. When my doctor mentioned an ileostomy, I was like HELL no, not an option. But my situation just got worse and worse until I was no longer living, just existing.
If you ever want to talk, just email me....click on my name and my email is posted there. Tracy
